'It Was Like Being on Another Planet'
This weekend was like the end of the world or something. I have to admit, it was a spectacle that I won't ever forget.
And then there was... Nemo?
I know I have blogged earlier this past year, about the naming of winter storms. And while I don't know who the"think tank geniuses" are who are coming up with these concepts, I do know, that if I had to guess, I would venture to say that it's all due to the media hype. We must hype each and every storm.
But this thing? Nemo? Isn't NEMO a Disney cartoon? I seem to recall taking at least one of the kids to see "Finding NEMO"
However, there was nothing cute about this storm. Hardly.
The last thing I wanted to do on Saturday was blow snow out of my driveway. Typically Saturday's are for blogging. The reason I am late this week is because of this cute little storm NEMO.
[Photo 2] That's me on Saturday morning. I am not happy.
I guess being my age, I have seen my fair share of snow storms. And yes, I remember the Blizzard of 78. I was trapped in my apartment for two days...though I did manage to walk the 2 miles to the ocean with my surfboard. I paddled out and caught a few waves just to say that I did it.
But I remember walking around the town and just looking at the seemingly endless amounts of snow being plowed. It was like being on another planet. Like the end of the world or something. I have to admit, it was a spectacle, that I won't ever forget.
I think the difference between the Blizzard of '78, and NEMO is, the relentless hype, and the the speed and ability to forecast these winter beasts. Back in 78, we had no Facebook, NO Internet, No Cellphones, No texting, No cable. All we had was TV, radio, and some of us had weather radios. But that's it.

Oh and we had NO SUV's...
People got trapped in those old station wagons, and other vehicles and just abandoned them right there on the highway...if you were behind one of them, you were basically...oh what's the word? You know damn well what that word is. Suffice it to say...there was some serious cursing going on in 1978.
And there was I'm sure, some cursing during NEMO....

Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances:
[Photo 3] OK I found this on the "WWW" you know, the Internet. Now this I find to be cute. Sort of. Clever use of snow and paint. Made me smile.
The other weather related news in our country was the insane Tornados. Winter storms are one thing, but winter tornados? Man that's too much. I do hope that all of you who lost power and have suffered during these storms are well on your way to recovery. Especially those who just went through the Hurricane Sandy only to be hit with Nemo.
Be strong and remain vigilant. Love and support is within your reach.
