Recycling in Hampton was 'Trashed' this Week

Hampton's recycling got "trashed" by unacceptable delays in service, especially to one particular neighborhood.

Residents of Hampton whose trash and recycling day is Thursday had their trash collection delayed by one day this past week-trash was collected on the Friday after Thanksgiving. However Recycling has been apparently been delayed one week until this Thursday for the residents on and surrounding Wentworth Avenue, Locke Road, Winnacunnet and Edgewood Roads.

It's understandable why trash was delayed for pick up by one day, but the question looms large as to why in my neighborhood,  has the recycling been delayed by one week, especially considering most of us have far more trash and recycling after Thanksgiving or any holiday than we normally do? Could it be a DPW contractual/union issue perhaps indicating that the Friday after Thanksgiving was  a Holiday for some in the Hampton DPW be the reason? if so, again why was trash picked up and recycling not?

The Micro issue- residents/taxpayers of Hampton have been inconvenienced by this delay. The Macro issue here is that The Hampton DPW continues to have glaring service issues both uptown and at the beach concerning scheduling, and lacks  clear communication regarding scheduling of both recycling and trash collection for residents and businesses alike.

I personally have gone from an "even" mix of trash and recycling materials to a 10 per cent trash and 90 per cent recycling mix. The rate of recycling in Hampton remains flat at 30 percent for the last two years. the Town of Hampton at the direction of voters has brought recycling "in house" at a staggering start up cost and these costs continue to rise as recycling remains flat and mixed messages regarding future trash collection schedules remains muddled and not communicated clearly by the head of the Hampton DPW.

Recycling service disruptions that our town has experienced this week are unacceptable and should not be tolerated.

Stay tuned for my next "trashy topic" which will touch upon "Pay As You Throw" as an option that has been kicked around by Mr. Noyes, the head of Hampton DPW- that my friends will prove to be an abysmal failure for the Town of Hampton.
