Taking a Bite Out of Wicked Good Cupcakes

Get a glimpse of Hampton's newest pastry shoppe, Wicked Good Cupcakes!

Cupcakes.

They're no longer just a delicious treat: they're a cultural obsession, and Wicked Good Cupcakes in Hampton's Depot Square provides locals with a place to indulge in that obsession.

The small shop opened on June 25, and co-manager Tracey Dorman said "business is doing pretty well" so far.

She and co-manager Jenna Beardsley Lyle are the only people who work at the shop, although Dorman said their children will often come in and help out.

Dorman was a student at the neighboring Chez Boucher cooking school, and the shop's building is rented from the school's owner, Ron Boucher.

The shop is independent, but is currently undergoing a name change due to copyright issues.

"There is a company called Wicked Good Cupcakes in Massachusetts that delivers up to this area and it created problems for us," said Dorman.

The shop sells 14 different flavors of cupcakes, all of which are made in the Chez Boucher kitchen from scratch. They sell at $2 each. Some of the more unique flavors are peanut butter cup, peanut butter and jelly, almond joy, pink lemonade, and margarita.

My personal favorites are almond joy, red velvet, and mostess. The almond joy flavor consists of a vanilla cupcake with chocolate frosting and coconut and almond slices on top. Anyone who enjoys the candy bar will love the cupcake.

Mostess is like a ding-dong, only tastier. From the outside it looks like a typical chocolate cupcake until you bite in and taste the delicious cream filling.

Finally, red velvet is an absolute must for anyone who loves cream cheese frosting. This delectable treat is topped with an enormous dollop of it, and the red velvet flavor compliments the frosting well.

For those who suffer from celiac disease, gluten free chocolate and vanilla flavors are available. The shop also sells coffee and four flavors of ice cream. People can order their treats "to go" or enjoy them in the small outdoor seating area on the front porch. In addition, catering services are available.

Wicked Good Cupcakes is located at 32 1/2 Depot Square in Hampton and is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

The shop is closed on Monday. More information is available by calling 967-4696, or by e-mailing wgcupcakesnh@gmail.com.
