Thanks to Hampton voters

With my virginal experience of running for elected office concluded, I thought I should offer some summary thoughts and also express my thanks.

We should all thank Rick Griffin for his many years of service; I certainly do thank you Rick for the innumerable hours  you have spent doing your best to see to the interest of this Town.

Campaigning is a time to sharpen the focus of differences – differences not based on personalities but based on the issues.  The campaign is over. Now it’s time to focus on practical governance with guidance from the voters as expressed in the election results.

Last year’s Warrant Article 31 would have initiated more subsidies to the State – it lost. Phil Bean’s candidacy emphasized the need for accountability of existing subsidies to the State – he won.

This year the candidacy for a 4th consecutive term by Selectmen Rick Griffin highlighted his platform of more subsidies to the State – he lost.

Mary-Louis Woolsey’s candidacy for Selectman included opposition to more subsidies to the State – she won!

My candidacy was dominated by opposition to more subsidies to the State, receiving enough votes to be deemed a victory by any standard of measure.

It is clear to anyone that cares to see; the voters of Hampton are consistent and determined. Hampton’s voters reject anything or anyone organizing to use local tax dollars to fund State responsibilities.

A special thanks to those that voted, in spite of my lack of political experience, to give me a chance to be their voice on the Budget Committee.

Thanks to all the Hampton citizens who cast their vote at Tuesday’s Town election.

This election the voters of Hampton reaffirmed their commitment to end the subsidization of State responsibilities with local taxes.
