The War on Terror and NH Voter ID Law

Sunny Kravitz reflects on our "longest war" — Afghanistan and Iraq — and the N.H. Voter ID Law.

On Wednesday August 22 the NY Times published 4 pages of photographs of military personnel killed in Afghanistan since Oct 7, 2001. It has now reached 2000 deaths of our young men and women and it doesn’t even take into account the tens of thousands of civilians killed. It brought back memories of when we invaded Iraq and declared the War on Terror.  That was initially named Operation Iraq Liberation, until someone in the Bush Administration realized that spelled “OIL” and changed it to Operation Iraq Freedom (“OIF”). Both wars have been fought with borrowed money, that someday will have to be paid back with interest, plus a tax cut that further reduced income to the government. Never in history has a nation gone to war and cut taxes at the same time.  But George W Bush did and his crowning achievement as President was to preside over the financial industry meltdown and mortgage disaster of 2009. Enter Barack Obama, is it any wonder his hair has turned gray. The Republicans are determined to make him a one term President. How can anyone believe the radicals in the Republican party can do better, when they are responsible for many if not most of the problems facing this nation today?

On another subject- the NH Voter ID Law.  It is simply a current version of the old Poll Tax to reduce voter turnout. Voter fraud is miniscule, if even that. Election fraud, on the other hand, has always been with us and will not disappear. The best example I can think of is the 2000 election, where the US Supreme Court by a 5-4 vote closed down the recount in Florida and allowed George W Bush to become President, even though he  took office with fewer actual national votes than Al Gore. If you need another reason to vote for President Obama, realize that 3 Justices are in their 70’s (Ginsberg, Breyer & Kennedy) and the next President will get to shape the Supreme Court for the next generation.

I live in Hampton and the Democrats have put together a strong slate of candidates For the first time in my life I will not consider any Republican candidate and vote a straight Democratic ticket.

ps: I plan to vote for Maggie Hassan in the September primary. She quickly rose into the leadership of the NH Senate and has demonstrated repeatedly the administrative skills necessary to be an effective Governor.
