Want to catch a game? Then stop by The Community Oven in Hampton every Monday throughout July (5:00-9:00 p.m.) to enjoy fresh wood-fired pizza, conversation, and—courtesy of the Seacoast Rotary Club—your chance to win one of five weekly raffle prizes or the grand prize—a pair of Red Sox tickets! (Game to be determined, and drawing to be held on July 29. If not present, winner will be notified).
In addition to being entered for great raffle prizes, Seacoast residents are encouraged to chat with local Rotarians to learn more about the club’s international project to co-sponsor, along with a sister club overseas, the construction of a much-needed daycare center and preschool in the struggling South African community of Kimberley. The project will commence in 2014 and will be rolled out in seven core phases, with local Rotarians in Kimberley leading the project management and ongoing operation.

Ten-percent of the proceeds of every pizza sold at The Community Oven during each of these five Monday evenings in July will go directly to the Seacoast Rotary Club’s international fund. Working with local Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Kimberley, South Africa, the two organizations are teaming to help break a deeply entrenched cycle of poverty, build and operate a multi-use facility (daycare, preschool, and adult programs), introduce literacy programs for children and adults alike, and establish lifesaving and quality-of-life healthcare.
A core focus for the worldwide Rotary organization, of which there are more than 1.2 million members around the globe, is Community. Working together across oceans and countries, Rotarians are making a real and lasting difference under the core principle of “Service Above Self.” In more than 34,000 clubs worldwide, members volunteer in communities at home and abroad to support education and job training, provide clean water, combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, and eradicate polio.
“Our fundraiser is sure to be a good time for all, with three key ingredients for success: Food, Fellowship, and Fun,” said Susan von Hemert, International Chair for Seacoast Rotary Club. “Who doesn’t love pizza, conversation, and a night out with family and friends? Add to that many great raffle prizes and the potential to win a pair of Sox tickets, and you’ve got a great night out!”
Susan continued, “Stop by our fundraiser any Monday evening in July from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Make new friends and contacts with your local Rotarians, and learn more about our plans to help a struggling town in South Africa build a better, stronger community—something we on the Seacoast are lucky to have in our own backyard.”
The Seacoast Rotary Club extends its thanks to The Community Oven for its help in raising awareness and funds. “The Community Oven has graciously agreed to donate ten-percent of every pizza they sell to our international fund,” said Susan. “We’re very lucky to have a local establishment that encourages and recognizes the great strides that are possible when communities come together in support of worthwhile causes. We hope to see many of our friends and neighbors there, and we look forward to telling you more about our plans to work with our sister club to help open the door to a better future for their residents.”
About Seacoast Rotary Club
The Seacoast Rotary Club is an energetic group of professionals in their twenties through their eighties who include a former NBA player, bankers, realtors, small business owners, insurance professionals, firefighters, police officers, non-profit executives and many others. The club is very involved in the local community. Our major fundraiser is the Annual Turkey Trot 5K road race on Thanksgiving morning that, over three short years, now attracts over 2,000 runners and raises over $40,000 each year. We donate the majority of the money we raise to local or international non-profits and causes. We welcome you to join us for a breakfast meeting at the Gaslight Restaurant any Thursday morning at 7:30 a.m. www.seacoastrotary.org
