Camper Rollover Closes Route 101 for About an Hour

New Hampshire State Police say an overloaded vehicle on the Hampton section of the highway appears to be a contributing factor.

Route 101 in Hampton was closed for about an hour on Oct. 2, 2015, for a single vehicle camper crash on the eastbound section of the highway, according to New Hampshire State Police.

The initial investigation, according to Sgt. Steven Cooper of Troop A, revealed that the camper started to “sway significantly” and when the driver, a Raymond man, attempted to stop the vehicle, it crashed.

“The operator attempted to stop which caused the camper to collide with the Jersey barrier that resulted in the camper rolling over,” according to Cooper. “The camper came to final rest in the middle of the eastbound lanes.”

Cooper noted that troopers later determined that an overloaded camper, beyond the weight rating of the vehicle, appeared to be a contributing factor.

Route 101 was closed for about an hour. Both the Hampton Police Department and Hampton Fire and Rescue teams assisted troopers at the scene.
