Candidate Filing Period Opens Today

You can now submit your application for town or school office. Here's the information again about the filing dates, open positions, elections and deliberative sessions.

The filing periods for several town and school elected offices in Hampton and North Hampton open today or in the near future, and many top spots in both towns — including selectmen, school board and budget committee positions — are for the taking.

Here's a breakdown of those open positions and the associated filing windows, polling hours and deliberative sessions, organized by town:

HAMPTON

The filing period is from Jan. 25 through Feb. 3. for the town, Hampton School District and Winnacunnet School District elections.

Election polling will be held for all three entities from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, in the Dining Hall.

Town positions available:

  • Selectmen: Two for three-year terms (Bill Lally has expressed he , while Jerry Znoj is expected to do so and Budget Committee Vice Chairwoman Mary-Louise Woolsey has expressed an interest in running).
  • Budget committee: Four for three-year terms (which currently belong to Patrick Collins, Brian Lapham, Richard Reniere and Michael Plouffe), and one for a one-year term (which currently belongs to Dustin Marzinzik).
  • Planning board: Two for three-year terms.
  • Zoning board: Two for three-year terms.
  • Tax collector: One for a three-year term.
  • Moderator: One for a two-year term.
  • Supervisor of the checklist: One for a six-year term.
  • Library trustee: Two for three-year terms.
  • Trust fund trustee: Two for three-year terms.
  • Cemetery trustee: One for a three-year term.

Hampton School District positions available:

  • School board: Two for three-year terms (Chairwoman Rosemary Lamers and Peppa Ring have both expressed they will seek re-election).
  • Moderator: One for a three-year term.
  • Clerk: One for a three-year term.
  • Treasurer: One for a three-year term.

Winnacunnet School District positions available:

  • School board: One Hampton representative seat for a three-year term (currently held by Denyse Richter), and one at-large seat for a three-year term (currently held by Vice Chairman Dick Goodman).
  • Moderator: One for a one-year term.
  • Budget committee: One Hampton representative seat for a three-year term, one North Hampton representative seat for a one-year term, and one at-large seat for a one-year term.

IMPORTANT NOTE: While the election polling all occurs on the same day and at the same place, the deliberative sessions for each of three entities are different.

The town's annual deliberative session is on Saturday, Feb. 4, at 8:30 a.m. in the WHS auditorium, the Hampton School District's deliberative session is on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m. in the cafetorium, and the Winnacunnet School District deliberative session is Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m. in the WHS auditorium.

 

NORTH HAMPTON

The filing period is from Jan. 25 through Feb. 3 for the school elections, while the town's filing period runs from March 21 through March 30.

The school election polling will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, at , while the town election polling will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, at .

Town positions available:

  • Selectman: One for a three-year term (currently held by Larry Miller).
  • Budget committee: Two for three-year terms (currently held by Rich Stanton and Paul Martino), and one for a two-year term (currently held by Margaret Allen).
  • Planning board: Two for three-year terms.
  • Zoning board: One for a three-year term.
  • Moderator: One for a two-year term.
  • Treasurer: One for a one-year term.
  • Supervisor of the checklist: One for a six-year term.
  • Library trustee: One for a three-year term.
  • Cemetery trustee: One for a three-year term.
  • Water commission: One for a three-year term.

North Hampton School District positions available:

  • School board: Two for three-year terms (currently held by Chairman Dave Sarazen and Robert Copp).
  • School moderator: One for a three-year term.
  • School district treasurer: One for a three-year term.
  • School district clerk: One for a three-year term.

Winnacunnet School District positions available:

  • School board: One Hampton representative seat for a three-year term (currently held by Denyse Richter), and one at-large seat for a three-year term (currently held by Vice Chairman Dick Goodman).
  • Moderator: One for a one-year term.
  • Budget committee: One Hampton representative seat for a three-year term, one North Hampton representative seat for a one-year term, and one at-large seat for a one-year term.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The North Hampton town budget public hearing is at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, at Town Hall, while the deliberative session for the town is at 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, at Town Hall.

The North Hampton School District deliberative session is at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at the school.
