Cat Dies During Structure Fire On Fern Road In North Hampton Sunday; Seacoast Teams Assist

NORTH HAMPTON, NH — North Hampton Fire Chief Jacob MacGlashing reported that local emergency crews responded to a structure fire on Sunday evening.

The incident occurred on Fern Road. North Hampton Fire received the report of the fire at approximately 6:40 p.m. Upon arrival at the scene, responding crews observed a garage engulfed in flames. The fire had extended from the garage into the main residence. Firefighters immediately began an aggressive attack on the blaze. They declared a first alarm to secure additional assistance from neighboring departments.

The fire was brought under control at approximately 8 p.m.

All occupants of the home successfully evacuated the structure before firefighters arrived at the scene. No injuries were reported among the human residents. Two pets remained inside the residence when crews arrived. Firefighters conducted a search of the home and removed two cats. One cat suffered extensive injuries and did not survive the incident.

Mutual aid was provided by the fire departments from Hampton, Rye, Greenland, Portsmouth, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Newington, Dover, and East Kingston. Additional assistance was provided by the Hampton Falls, Seabrook, and Epping Fire Departments, which offered station coverage during the incident.

The North Hampton Police Department assisted with traffic control at the scene while crews worked to extinguish the flames. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by North Hampton Fire and Rescue.

No further information regarding the origin of the fire has been released at this time. The investigation will continue as officials work to determine the circumstances that led to the structure fire.
