Veterans Liaison staff to be available at American Legion in Seabrook
SEABROOK, NH – On Wednesday, July 10, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter’s veterans liaison, Josh Denton, will hold open office hours in Seabrook at the Raymond E. Walton American Legion Post # 70 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Denton, an Iraq war veteran who served in the Army, will be available to assist veterans in obtaining the benefits they have earned, opening cases with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and to discuss any and all issues facing the veteran community.

“It is important for me, my office, and for the federal government as a whole to reach out to veterans where they are and engage with them on the issues that truly matter to their community,” Shea-Porter said. “Ensuring access to veterans’ benefits has always been critical to my work in Congress, and I encourage veterans facing challenges to visit our open office hours or contact our office at any time.”
As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, Congresswoman Shea-Porter has consistently advocated for America’s troops and veterans. In the 110th and 111th Congresses, Shea-Porter worked to provide New Hampshire veterans with increased in-state access to medical care as well as an expanded GI Bill of Rights. This year, she has cosponsored legislation that would guarantee veterans access to in-state college tuition rates, expand access to mental health services, and allow the Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs to recognize same-sex marriages.
She recently announced her support for a number of bills to address the VA backlog of claims for disability compensation. This package of seven bills includes innovative and common sense approaches to settling veterans’ claims and compensation faster.
In addition to helping returning troops access the health care and education they deserve, Shea-Porter is committed to helping them find a job. That’s why she cosponsored the Veteran Employment Transition Act, which would allow employers to claim a new, streamlined $2,400 tax credit when they hire a recently discharged veteran.
Congresswoman Shea-Porter has attended numerous events for veterans across the district such as the Vietnam Veterans Welcome Home Ceremony in Concord, a medal presentation ceremony for a WWII veteran from Dover, and the conference for Disabled American Veterans in North Conway.
“Soldiers pledge never to leave one of their own behind on the battlefield, and we should honor that pledge by promising never to leave a veteran or military family behind,” Shea-Porter said. “Veterans deserve access to quality health care, a good job, and an affordable education, and if any veteran feels our country is falling short on this pledge, I encourage them to contact my office and see where we can help.”
