Donation Made to Big Brothers Big Sisters of New Hampshire

Newburyport Five Cents Savings Charitable Foundation has donated $5,000 to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of New Hampshire, according to a press statement.

This organization, one of the largest mentoring programs, fostering one-on-one relationships between children and adult volunteers, is looking to expand their services into the Hampton and Seabrook area and the Foundation’s donation will provide assistance in helping achieve this goal.

President, Janice C. Morse is enthusiastic about the partnership, saying, “Big Brothers Big Sisters is a vital organization not only to the community, but to so many children’s lives who now have a role model to look up to and seek guidance from.”

The Big Brothers Big Sisters organization has conducted research supporting their cause. After 18 months “Little Brothers and Little Sisters” are 46 percent less likely to begin using illegal drugs, 52 percent less likely to skip school, and 33% less likely to use physical violence. The results of the organizations methods of mentoring are resoundingly positive, while both mentors and mentees learn rewarding lessons through the program.
