On Tuesday, June 26 at 7:00pm., Portmouth's Pontine Theatre will present "Familiar Fields: The Power of Community in the Work of Sarah Orne Jewett" at the Hampton Falls Free Library.
This program, written by the theatre's co-artistic directors, M. Margaret Mathews and Greg Gathers, is based on the life and work of the 19th century Maine author. The presentation explores issues of community as reflected in Jewett's stories, and the ways in which her regional portraits speak about both the essential New England character and universal experiences of geographic isolation, cultural isolation, and how individual identity is shaped and defined by community. This presentation combines excerpts from the company's original productions, "The Country of the Pointed Firs" and "Dunnet Landing Stories".
The presentation will conclude with an audience discussion.
