Fire Station Plans Bring Thousands in Savings

Word has come in that engineering costs for the fire stations are thousands less than anticipated.

Hampton Town Manager Fred Welch said the town has received word that the engineering work for the  will cost 5 percent or roughly $18,500 less than the anticipated, town-meeting allowed $370,000 price tag.

The work, which is one of the early steps in the process to get the project off the ground, will cost approximately $351,500, according to numbers provided by Welch Monday night.

Hampton selectmen  authorized Fire Chief Chris Silver to negotiate the engineering contract  because Silver said he thought there would be a cost savings and because it would avoid waiting 45 days for the plans.
