Good morning, Hampton and North Hampton. Here are five things you need to know for Friday, Dec. 7:

 

1. Today’s Featured Fun: The Winnacunnet High School Warriors girls' basketball team opens its season under its new coach Friday at home against Londonderry (junior varsity at 5:30 p.m./varsity at 7 p.m.).

2. Are You Feeling Lucky? Regardless of your own luck, the Hampton Parent-Teacher Association will definitely feel lucky tonight after tonight's holiday fundraiser, which is open to the public and features an Italian dinner buffet and a Texas Hold'em tournament, at Ocean Gaming.

3. What Else Is Happening Today? Expect a story later today on an important, and likely final, step in a controversial change at WHS.

Also, a beloved local waitress fighting an aggressive breast cancer returns to work today, today is the last day to cast your vote for a local man nominated for "Music Teacher of the Year," and  Gov. John Lynch asks all flags be lowered to half-staff today due to Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day in New Hampshire.

4. This Day in History: At 7:55 a.m. Hawaii time on this day in 1941, a Japanese dive bomber bearing the red symbol of the Rising Sun of Japan on its wings appeared out of the clouds above the island of Oahu.

A swarm of 360 Japanese warplanes followed, descending on the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor in a ferocious assault. The surprise attack struck a critical blow against the U.S. Pacific fleet and drew the United States irrevocably into World War II.
