1. Back to School Picnic Today: 's People Active in Learning is hosting a special picnic at 5:15 p.m. to help kick of the new school year, which starts on Monday. There is also an open house at the school from 5 to 6 p.m.

2. Today’s Featured Fun: The Goat Ropers will play a free show on the from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

Also, Dress 4 School Success is hosting a clothing distribution for those in need on from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at . 4. This Day in History: On this day in 1902, pioneering cookbook author Fannie Farmer, who changed the way Americans prepare food by advocating the use of standardized measurements in recipes, opened Miss Farmer's School of Cookery in Boston.

In addition to teaching women about cooking, Farmer later educated medical professionals about the importance of proper nutrition for the sick.
