3. What Else Is Happening Today? North Hampton fourth graders are heading out to Star Island today. According to teacher Mark McFarlin, it will be a day to remember for the students, filled with art, history, biology and lessons on sustainability.
4. This Day in History: On this day in 1944, now known as D-Day, the Allied powers crossed the English Channel and landed on the beaches of Normandy, France, beginning the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi control during World War II. Within three months, the northern part of France would be freed and the invasion force would be preparing to enter Germany, where they would meet up with Soviet forces moving in from the east.
