Hampton Beach Breaks Ground on New Fire Station [VIDEO]

The fire chief thanked the community for a project that has been awaited for "many, many, many years."

Several dozen beach and town officials, firefighters and residents turned out Wednesday afternoon to mark the historic groundbreaking for the long overdue new fire station at Hampton Beach.

The video above captures some of the sights and sounds from the groundbreaking and construction scene, located on Brown Avenue behind the current beach fire station and across the street from the Hampton police station.

Fire Chief Chris Silver, featured in the video above, received Hampton Planning Board approval last month for a subdivision and lot line adjustment that allowed for the construction of the new $3.1 million beach substation.

Work on the $2.6 million addition to the Winnacunnet Road station is also underway, and a groundbreaking ceremony for that station will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, according to Silver.

The new station and the addition, both of which were approved at town meeting, are expected to be completed by August 2013.
