At Hampton Brewery, Community Leaders Discuss Climate Change

Local Everything event featured musical acts, discussions about New Hampshire agriculture, food production.

NextGen Climate and Throwback Brewery hosted “Local Everything,” a community event featuring musical acts and a roundtable discussion with community leaders about the impacts of climate change on New Hampshire agriculture and food production.

During the discussion, according to a press statement, local elected officials, climate scientists, and business leaders addressed the importance of embracing clean energy solutions to mitigate these impacts and called on political candidates to embrace NextGen Climate’s goal of achieving more than 50 percent clean energy by 2030.

NextGen Climate’s Gordon Merrick, who organized the event, addressed how business and agriculture are affected by climate change.

“Local farmers, food distributors, brewers, and restaurants are forced to live under the constant threat of destruction to their livelihoods as climate change alters our planet,” said Merrick. “Events like ‘Local Everything’ help to call attention to how badly we need bold action on this issue. It’s our responsibility to help prevent further harm to the natural resources that so many Granite Staters depend on.”

One attendee, Hannah Whitcomb, a senior at University of New Hampshire, emphasized the need for the United States to embrace clean energy solutions.

“Throwback Brewery sources nearly all of their ingredients from the region, so they can produce great beer in a sustainable way,” said Whitcomb. “Why shouldn’t the rest of us take the same approach to generating energy? Clean energy, like solar and wind, will spur economic growth and create jobs, while ensuring clean air for the next generation and protecting our planet.”

“Local Everything” is the latest event in NextGen Climate New Hampshire’s ongoing effort to encourage Granite Staters to call for action on climate and highlight the economic and environmental benefits of clean energy.
