Hampton Police Investigate Suspicious Activity At Church

Deputy Chief: Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Church canceled services due to items left at the alter inside the church.

HAMPTON, NH — A Hampton church canceled services Sunday as a cautionary measure after suspicious items were found inside, left at the altar, according to police. Officers were sent to Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Church on Lafayette Road around 7 a.m. for a report of suspicious activity – a number of items left on the altar inside of the church, according to Deputy Chief David Hobbs of the Hampton Police Department. Services were canceled for today, out an abundance of caution, he said.

"Police were able to identify and locate the person that left these concerning items," Hobbs said. "There was nothing illegal about these items however it did give cause for concern for the safety of the community. It was determined that these items were left as a means to return them to another family member."

No charges are expected. Hobbs also stated it was a good reminder to everyone to report any suspicious activity – just in case.
