Hat-Trick Swayzes Clinch Championship with OT Thriller

The Hat-Trick Swayzes recently capped a two-goal comeback against top-seeded Seacoast Avalanche with a stunning overtime blast to win the first Hampton Recreation Adult Street Hockey League championship.

Defenseman and assistant captain Nick LaPierre sealed the 3-2 victory around the 13-minute mark of overtime, netting the winning marker roughly three minutes after the Hat-Trick Swayzes had a goal waived off at the goal line.

Center and captain Kyle Stucker fired a shot from the nearside corner that appeared to have beaten Seacoast Avalanche's goaltender, although referee Dave Hersey ruled the puck didn't fully cross the line.

Seacoast Avalanche was held without a shot on net during overtime, and the Hat-Trick Swayzes responded to the waived-off goal with a flurry of sustained pressure that culminated in LaPierre's overtime winner.

The championship game was the second game of a playoff doubleheader during the 12th week of 's inaugural co-ed hockey season, played at the outdoor rink on Hardardt's Way.

The fall league begins in September. The league is still accepting player and team entries.

Seacoast Avalanche, a Dracut, Mass., team captained by Don Murphy, dispatched the , captained by Hersey and comprised largely of officers from the , in the first semifinal game.

The Hat-Trick Swazyes defeated Elite Screenprinting, captained by Drew Smith, 5-2 to set the stage for the championship game, which was held 20 minutes after the Swazyes-Elite tilt.

Forward Teddy Plouffe (shorthanded), forward Ehren Hill, forward Drew Babich, Stucker (powerplay) and LaPierre all scored goals for the Hat-Trick Swayzes against Elite Screenprinting, while Plouffe scored both regulation goals for the Hat-Trick Swayzes during the championship game against Seacoast Avalanche.
