Local Man Finalist for Teacher of the Year

Today's Photo of the Day recognizes a local teacher's recent honor.

Each weekday we highlight some of the great art captured by all of you, although we also occasionally get the chance to recognize individuals for major happenings and noteworthy events.

Today's Photo of the Day does just that, as it highlights the recent achievements of Gus Carlson, a Hampton teacher who was named as a finalist for the state's Teacher of the Year award.

Here's part of the e-mail that Superintendent Kathleen Murhpy sent to Patch and staff within the district:

Last night I had the privilege to attend the Tenth Annual Celebrating Leadership in Education Awards Ceremony in Plymouth NH with Mrs. Costa and Mrs. Antico. The event was sponsored by the New Hampshire Department of Education in partnership with Hannaford Supermarkets and Smart Technologies.

The event recognized the NH Blue Ribbon Schools, the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching as well as the Semi Finalist, Finalist and NH Teacher of the Year. It was a proud moment to see Hampton’s own Gus Carlson receive his recognition and award as a finalist for this prestigious award. There should be no doubt that Gus makes a difference each and every day in the lives of children. Gus is the consummate professional who strives to make his community school and world a better place.

Gus received a [$2,000] monetary award for his achievements, and in true Gus style, immediately turned it over to the district/school to be used to enhance technology. Thank you Gus!

Congrats, Gus!
