HAMPTON, NH — A man from Maine was arrested on Friday in Seabrook after being accused of carjacking a vehicle in Hampton with a woman and child inside.

Police, around noon, received 911 calls about a stolen vehicle in the area of the Underwood Memorial Bridge and Hampton Beach State Park. It was occupied by a woman and an infant when the man was accused of stealing the vehicle.

The man, later identified as David Tayes, 46, of Baldwin, Maine, was accused of driving across the bridge and into Seabrook while speeding, Deputy Chief Alex Reno of the Hampton Police Department said.

Reno said Tayes was not known to the victims.

The woman was able to place the vehicle in park in the area of the Ocean Boulevard and Route 286 intersection. She told Tayes she was calling 911, and he fled, Reno said. Seabrook police arrested him a short time later.

Tayes was brought back to Hampton and charged with two counts of kidnapping, reckless conduct, and theft of a motor vehicle, all felonies. Reno said no one was injured during the incident. Tayes was held in the Rockingham County Jail on preventive detention and will be arraigned in superior court on Monday.
