Maisey: Take a Stand to Save Social Security

Letter writer says she has joined an effort to help bring Social Security to the forefront of our campaign conversations.

NEWSFIELD, NH — Did you know that unless serious changes are made, it is projected Social Security payments starting in 2034 will be cut by up to 25 percent? That could be as much as $10,000 a year for some folks.

If you are currently retired and have a pension as well as Social Security, you may not be significantly impacted, but if you currently work and have no company paid pension plan, with only contributions you are making to your 401K – then Social Security may be a substantial part of your retirement income.

I am concerned about how these cuts will impact our children and grandchildren. AARP’s TAKE A STAND campaign is asking our federal candidates – presidential and congressional – where they stand on this issue. I have joined this effort to help bring Social Security to the forefront of our campaign conversations.

Whenever you see us in our red shirts any rallies or candidate meetings, we are a reminder that they should be communicating their plans for saving Social Security. You can join that effort – you don’t have to be a member of AARP – or retired or near retirement. We are all impacted – young and old! TAKE A STAND!
