Man Tries To Steal $8K From LI Bank: Police

The staff became suspicious and called police, authorities say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Bronx man tried, and failed to steal $8,000 from a Hampton Bays bank Monday, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, around 4:15 p.m. Monday, a call came in regarding an attempted grand larceny at the M&T Bank on West Montauk Highway.

Pedro Rivera, 68, tried to fraudulently withdraw $8,000, police said.

The bank staff became suspicious of his actions and contacted police, authorities said. Rivera was arrested and faces charges of third-degree attempted grand larceny, second-degree forgery, and second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, all felonies, police said.

He was taken to Southampton Town Police headquarters to be processed and held for morning arraignment, police said.
