Mason: Innis Will Resolve Problems Facing Families, Businesses
Letter writer has reservations about a doctor who would rather pass a law than work within his own profession to establish best practices.

GREENLAND, NH — From all the campaign literature that’s come to my house and the meetings I’ve attended, what actually moves me to promote someone is when I see evidence that personal experience has led someone to develop expertise in a field and help others. That’s why my vote is for Dan Innis, the man who learned life lessons from his working-class family and went on to become dean of the College of Business and Economics at UNH.
As a small-business owner, Dan saw the ins and outs of the work place – and that regulations can become hurdles, be little more than paperwork that choke the energy a person needs to build business with a small staff.
Dan’s professional record demonstrates he listens and can team up with others in the NH Senate to resolve any of the many problems facing families and businesses.

Dr. Tom Sherman’s record, on the other hand, says to me that he works to regulate problems – after the fact. I have serious reservations about a doctor who would apparently rather pass a law than work from within his own profession to establish best practices that improve public health at schools of medicine. There are no quick fixes to the crisis we face, and data on prevention education suggests that it’s not the education that matters but the support of the family and community that is decisive. If the medical profession could police their own – investigative reporting has told us that the problem began with the indiscriminate prescription of pain meds – I think there’d be less need for a host of laws.
