There was some good news, though, as one of Cotter's Merrimack teammates, Joe Mantoni, did get drafted by the Cincinatti Reds.
An earlier story follows:
A North Hampton native is among the New Hampshire residents who could get picked in this weekend's Major League Baseball draft, according to WMUR.
WMUR Sports Reporter Kevin Gray lists infielder Casey Cotter of North Hampton and Merrimack College in the "best of the rest" category as New Hampshire residents who could wind up getting drafted.
According to his bio on the Merrimack College website, Cotter is a Winnacunnet High School graduate. In 2012, he led Merrimack College at the plate with a team-best .324 batting average, appearing and starting in all but one of the team's 49 contests. He drove in 20 rus, the fourth-most on the team, and totaled 87 bases, a team-best. He posted a seven-game hitting streak and 16 multi-hit games, tied for the team lead.
The Hampton Babe Ruth website says Cotter was named the 2013 Northeast-10 Conference Baseball Player of the Year. The former Hampton Babe Ruth League standout led the league this year with a .419 batting average.
The MLB draft starts today and runs through Saturday, consisting of 40 rounds in all.
