New Ice Cream Shop Opening on Hampton Beach

The retro-themed business will soon start revving locals' tastebuds.

Rain or shine, YesterYears Ice Cream Shoppe will bring its unique spin on a local favorite to Hampton Beach on Thursday, June 7.

The above photos were posted on the Facebook page for the new ice cream parlor, which is decked-out in a 1950s-style motif and housed in a newly-built, garage-like building at 19 Ocean Blvd.

In addition to the shop's retro memorabilia, linoleum tiles and a 1958 Harley Davidson Panhead Duo Glide, many of the frozen treats on the menu also harken back to the old ice cream parlor days.

The business, owned by Ron and Julie Plourde, will serve premium ice cream from Bliss Bros Dairy, of Attleboro, Mass. Among the menu choices are: hand-dipped ice cream cones, sundaes, banana boats, milkshakes, malts, Lime Rickey's, and old-fashioned soda floats.

Julie Plourde said it's been her husband's dream to open a retro ice cream parlor since he has a teenager, and after 27 years she said he decided to leave his job as an executive with Hewlett Packard in October 2011 in order to pursue that dream.

She said the couple decided to open the business at Hampton Beach because they bought two rental homes on Island Path last year and "love it there." The couple live in Salem, and their children Mitch — a 19-year-old student at UMass Lowell — and Rachel — a 15-year-old Salem High School student — will be working with them at YesterYears.

The seasonal ice cream parlor will be open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. from April through October each year. More information about the business, located at the intersection of Q Street and Ocean Boulevard on the south end of the beach, is available at www.yesteryearsicecream.com.
