CASA of New Hampshire is a division of the National Court Appointed Special Advocates Association, which recruits, trains and supervises volunteer guardians ad litem who advocate for abused and neglected children in every court across the state.

When a case of child abuse or neglect is being prosecuted in the state, judges are required to call upon a guardian ad litem to represent the child’s best interests so the child has the opportunity to grow up and thrive in a stable, loving home. Through monthly visits with the child and his or her parents, teachers, socials workers and others, the CASA is able to get an in-depth look at the child’s life and make a qualified recommendation to a judge as to what is in his or her best interest. CASA GALs receive 40 hours of classroom training and top-notch support throughout this process.

CASA of New Hampshire is proudly celebrating its 25th year of advocacy in the state. The organization was founded by Marcia Sink in 1989 when, then a foster parent, she recognized the need for dedicated representation for the child’s best interest in a courtroom setting. In the last 25 years, CASA has advocated for more than 9,000 children in cases of abuse and neglect.

Even with a quarter of a century in the books, the need for caring, compassionate adult volunteers is constant. CASA currently advocates for children in 80 to 85 percent of the cases in New Hampshire’s courts, but is working toward being able to advocate for every child in need.

To do that, CASA needs your help. Visit www.casanh.org to learn more about ways you can volunteer or donate to the organization. Volunteer training sessions are conducted around the state throughout the year and a Seacoast area training is scheduled to begin in Dover in April.
