Police Tell Hampton Residents: Prepare For Weekend Storm
A blizzard warning has been issued with 18 inches to 2 feet of snow, storm surges, and 10-to-14-foot waves expected in Hampton.
HAMPTON, NH — Police in Hampton are warning residents to prepare for the weekend storm which is expected to have a major impact on the area beginning Saturday morning.
Deputy Chief Alex Reno said residents should expect heavy snow and dangerous driving conditions during the worst parts of the storm, which is expected to run from 6 a.m. on Saturday to 6 a.m. on Sunday. A storm surge of 1 to 3 feet, as well as 10-to-14-foot nearshore waves, are expected, he said.
“There is a threat of minor coastal erosion on exposed low-lying shorelines as well as splash-over with small rocks and debris on coastal roadways,” Reno said. “The high winds also pose a potential for falling tree limbs and power outages.”

Reno said residents should watch for safety advisories, minimize travel, never drive into flood areas, stay off the roads unless necessary, keep vehicles free of snow when driving, and allow for time when traveling.
If the power goes out, generators should not be used indoors. They should be fueled and operated a safe distance from structures.

Residents should never go near downed power lines and should keep hydrants free and clear of snow.
Keep flashlights and cellphones charged.
“Hampton emergency services have increased staffing to respond to emergency situations,” Reno said. “We are working closely with NH Department of Transportation, NH Department of Safety, NH Homeland Security, and local utilities to ensure proper responses to the conditions.”
In the event of heat loss during the storm, the Hampton Police Department will be used as a warming shelter, he said. The department is located at 100 Brown Avenue.
