Rain Pushes Healthy U Day to June 10
Weather forced the postponement of an activity- and food-filled event to help a local student battling cancer.
The community will help raise money this weekend during a special entertainment-filled event for a "remarkable" sixth grader going through his second round of cancer treatments, according to resident Kelly Parrot.
"Healthy U Day — Playing for Sam" is from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, and benefits Sam Thomas, who is fighting Rhabdomyosarcoma, also known as RMS.
Parrot said the event is designed as a community health fair to show Thomas "support and love," and comes after a walk-a-thon from noon to 1 p.m. to help raise money and awareness.

The event was rained out on its originally scheduled date of Sunday, June 3.
The focus of the day is on healthy living, and Parrot said there will be face painting, frozen yogurt, karate and yoga demonstrations, flag football, capture the flag, soccer, prizes and more.
