Rochester Man Dies After Fatal Crash On I-95 In Hampton

HAMPTON, NH — A Rochester man was killed after a crash on I-95 in Hampton Saturday, according to New Hampshire State Police. Troopers were called to the open lane toll area on the northbound side of the highway at 10 p.m. for a report of a single-vehicle crash. When they arrived, they found a 2002 Dodge Ram pickup truck had driven head-on into the guardrail and concrete barrier of the open road toll lane of the Interstate.

Trenton Wendell, 48, was "found to be entrapped and unresponsive within the vehicle," according to Lt. John Hennessey of Troop A.

Hampton firefighters freed Wendell, he was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, and pronounced deceased, Hennessey added.

"(The) initial on-scene investigation revealed that Wendell was traveling north and appeared to be entering the open road toll, when for an unknown reason, a last second lane change occurred which resulted in him striking the barrier," Hennessey said.

Hampton police, firefighters, and the department of transportation assisted state police at the crash scene.
