Route 1A Traffic Shift Set Between Hampton And Seabrook Wednesday

Drivers will be routed onto the newly built Hampton River bridge during daytime work, with alternating traffic in place.

HAMPTON, NH — Drivers heading between Hampton and Seabrook will see a new traffic pattern on Route 1A on Wednesday as the state shifts vehicles onto the newly constructed bridge over the Hampton River.

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation will move traffic from the existing Route 1A bridge, the Neil R. Underwood Bridge, onto the new bridge between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Oct. 28. The change is planned along the stretch from the intersection at Harbor Road in Hampton to the entrance of Harborside Park in Seabrook.

The shift is weather permitting. During the work, flaggers will direct drivers because the roadway will be reduced to one-way alternating traffic while crews restripe the road for the transition onto the new span.

The traffic change is part of the larger Seabrook-Hampton bridge replacement project. According to the department, SPS New England, Inc. of Salisbury, Massachusetts, is the general contractor for the $107.5 million project, identified as project 15904.

The department said road users should follow traffic laws and stay alert to message boards and posted signs during the changeover. Drivers are also encouraged to sign up for free real-time construction and traffic messages by text or email through New England 511 at https://newengland511.org/.
