Seacoast Firefighters Help Rye Extinguish 4-Alarm Blaze On Red Mill Lane

Rye Fire and Rescue battled a significant four-alarm fire at a historic home on Red Mill Lane, with no reported injuries.

RYE, NH — Firefighters from around the Seacoast and Maine assisted the Rye Fire Department in extinguishing a 4-alarm fire at 50 Red Mill Lane on Thursday.

Rye Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a structure fire at approximately 8:27 a.m. Upon arrival, crews observed heavy smoke and fire coming from both the first and second floors of the residence. Firefighters immediately began an aggressive attack on the fire.

Fire operations were made difficult by snow totals from recent winter storms. Rye Fire declared a fourth-alarm to bring additional resources to the scene. Firefighters successfully contained the fire to the first and second floors of the home.

Chief Mark Cotreau reported that there were no injuries. Crews remained on scene for the remainder of the day to monitor for any hot spots. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Rye Fire Department.HeCotreau acknowledged the efforts of the fire crews and the importance of mutual aid.

"Crews worked diligently to contain the fire and keep it from extending to the remainder of the structure," Cotreau said. "Our seamless mutual aid capability that we have throughout our district was a key factor in containing this fire."

Cotreau also expressed gratitude to the assisting departments.

"I would like to thank our mutual aid partners for their assistance and response," he stated.

Mutual aid was provided by numerous departments. These included Greenland, Portsmouth, Newcastle, Hampton, North Hampton, Seabrook, Portsmouth Navy Shipyard, Pease Air Force Base, Dover, Durham, Newmarket, Newfield, Exeter, Epping, East Kingston Air Supply, Stratham, Ellioit, Maine, and York Rehab.
