Speed a Contributing Factor in Route 101 Tractor-Trailer Crash: NHSP
A West Haven, CT, tractor-trailer truck driver, hauling lumber, overturned at the onramp of I-95, closing the highway for hours.
HAMPTON, NH — New Hampshire State Troopers, Hampton Police and Fire and the NH DOT have had their hands full for most of the day today after a tractor-trailer truck mishandled an onramp, crash, and spilled its cargo, lumber planks. The crash occurred at around 10:45 a.m. on the Route 101 eastbound off-ramp onto I-95.
According to a preliminary investigation, the 2014 Volvo unit, being driven by a 23-year-old West Haven, CT, truck driver, exited onto the ramp and lost control of the vehicle as it went off to the left side of the roadway and overturned, spilling lumber onto the left shoulder. The truck came to a final rest on its side, according to NHSP.
The driver sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

“All aspects of this accident are under investigation,” according to Sgt. Keith Walker of the NHSP. “However, it appears that speed is a contributing factor. No charges have been filed at this time.”
As of 4 p.m., the ramp to I-95 is still closed and is expected to be until cleanup operation have been completed. Traffic is being diverted to Exit 13.

The New Hampshire State Police were assisted at the scene by members of the Hampton Police Department, the Hampton Fire Department, The New Hampshire State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit, The New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.
This accident remains under investigation by Trooper Erik Willett. Anyone with information pertaining to this accident is asked to call Trooper Willett/NH State Police/Troop A at 603-223-8490.
