Stiles Receives Impact Award for Leadership on SPED

State Sen. Nancy Stiles, R-Hampton, on July 29, received the Impact Award from the NH Association of Special Education Administrators and the Parent Information Center. Stiles was recognized for her leadership on SB 414, which allows local school districts to benefit from the Medicaid-to-Schools Program.

“I am honored to receive the Impact Award. SB 414 will mean that New Hampshire special education students can benefit from the Medicaid-in-Schools program, and provides significant relief for local taxpayers who would otherwise have to shoulder the cost,” Stiles said. “I want to thank the Parent Information Center, our Special Education Administrators, and our Special Educators for all they do for our state’s special education students.”

Stiles was the lead sponsor of the legislation, chairs the Senate Education Committee that approved it, and shepherded SB 414 to the Governor’s desk. Without SB 414, federal Medicaid regulators would have ceased reimbursement for individualized education services geared to the needs of the child. SB 414 will save schools in Senator Stiles district over $475,000 a year.

The award inscription reads “Presented to Senator Nancy Stiles from the NH Association of Special Education Administrators and the Parent Information Center for making a difference in NH schools, children, and communities. In appreciation for your leadership on SB 414 to ensure that NH schools, children, and communities continue to benefit from the Medicaid-to-Schools program that provides millions of dollars of federal funding to NH school districts that otherwise would have to come from state or local sources.”
