Treasure Hunt: Mrs. Mitchell's

Friday's Patch Passport is here to help you discover some unique treasures and trinkets at local shops.

It's time to grab that satchel (it's OK, we won't tell anyone it's a man purse) and embrace your inner Indiana Jones today, because Patch Passport is here to help you go treasure hunting.

There are countless shops in Hampton and North Hampton with interesting goodies to check out, but try beginning your search at , located at 285 Ocean Blvd.

While you won't find "the" Holy Grail there, there are plenty of unique items, including: wooden trolls, mermaid figurines, sea shells, wind chimes made out of shells, jewelry and art by local artists, plenty of lighthouses and other sea-themed items, fudge, and much more.

Another item you won't find at Mrs. Mitchell's, a Hampton staple since 1966, is a phoenix -- statue or alive.

The storefront itself truly embodies the phoenix metaphor, though, as Mrs. Mitchell's burned to the ground during a fire in February 2010.

The store has risen from those ashes and is once again providing the same kinds of treasures, albeit in a swanky new storefront that incorporates the style of the new bathhouses and other Hampton Beach revitalization work.

Be sure to check out Patch's business directory for some ideas about other treasure-filled stores.
