Vintage Baseball at Leary Field Portsmouth NH

On Saturday, June 14th, 2014 the New Hampshire Granite Vintage Base Ball
club will play host to the Boston Beaneaters Base Ball club. The men of the
Granite will take on the predecessors of today’s Atlanta Braves with first
pitch at 10:30 AM sharp. The match will be under the rules and customs of 1886
Base Ball. Some of the rules that differ today include: 7 balls are required
for a walk, foul balls are not counted as strikes, any foul tipped ball that is
caught is an out, a batter struck by a ball is not entitled to take a base, and pitcher’s do not pitch from the
“rubber” but rather must start and finish the act of pitching within a 7 foot
by 4 foot box, the front of which is 50 feet from home plate. Admission for
this event is free and all are welcomed to come and enjoy historic Leary Field
for this match. For more information regarding the teams please contact New
Hampshire Granite Brian Donohue at (508)221-5775 or nhgvbbc@gmail.com. All are encouraged to visit the teams’ pages on the electronic computer: https://www.facebook.com/BostonBeaneaters and http://nhgranite.wordpress.com/.
