Warriors Pride: 5 Unforgettable Athletes From Winnacunnet High School

From local fields to national fame, these stars got their start in Hampton-North Hampton.

Sports run deep in Hampton-North Hampton, and Winnacunnet High School has long been at the heart of it. It’s no surprise some standout talent once wore the Warriors uniform. Today we're celebrating five unforgettable athletes from Winnacunnet High School who made a name for themselves well beyond the hometown field.


1. Billy Powers – Track & Field Star

Billy Powers was one of the most dominant track & field athletes in New Hampshire high school history. While competing for Winnacunnet, he was a five-time New England Champion, sweeping Division I hurdle events, winning indoor and outdoor championships in the 55m, 110m and 300m hurdles and also excelled in the high jump. Powers set state records in the 110m hurdles. He also earned several honors, including All-American status at New Balance Nationals, Mr. New Hampshire Track & Field and NH Gatorade Track & Field Athlete of the Year twice. 2. Alisyn McNamara – Collegiate Lacrosse Player

McNamara was a highly decorated lacrosse player at Winnacunnet High School. She was a two-year team captain, midfielder of the year and co-MVP of her high school team. She was selected as an academic All-American and played in senior all-star games, while also being a two-time All-State honoree on teams that captured multiple state titles. Her high school career was marked by impressive offensive numbers, finishing with over 200 total points. She also excelled in soccer during her high school years and was recognized as a New Hampshire State Scholar Athlete. After high school, Alisyn continued her lacrosse career at Trinity College, where she served as a two-year captain and earned multiple academic honors, including NESCAC All-Academic and IWLCA Academic Honor Roll distinctions. 3. Keelyn McNamara – Collegiate Lacrosse Player

Similar to her twin sister, McNamara was one of Winnacunnet’s most productive and versatile lacrosse players. She was a two-year team captain and team co-MVP, finishing her high school career with notable offensive statistics, over 200 total points, 150 draw controls and captured several state titles. She was a three-time All-State honoree and recognized as an academic All-American. After high school, Keelyn continued playing lacrosse at Trinity College with her sister, where she also earned NESCAC All-Academic and IWLCA Academic Honor Roll accolades and was consistently recognized for her contributions both on the field and in the classroom. 4. Chris Coates – Collegiate Basketball Player

Coates is one of the most notable basketball alumni from Winnacunnet High School. A High School All-American and Mr. New Hampshire Basketball during his senior year, Coates continued his success at Keene State College, where he became an All-American and the second leading scorer in program history. He finished his playing career playing professionally in Europe before transitioning into coaching. He has been inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame, the Little East Conference Hall of Fame and the Keene State College Hall of Fame. (Sources: KeeneOwls, LittleEast)

5. Amelia McAfee – Collegiate Field Hockey Player

McAfee is the most recent standout alum of this list. A field hockey player for the Warriors, she received team MVP honors and all-state recognition during her senior season. A multi-year club field hockey participant with Seacoast United, McAfee was an impact player her entire high school career before committing to Lasell University.
