Martha M. McDermott

A Hampton woman found dead in a murder-suicide will be laid to rest Monday.

Martha M. McDermott, 38, of Hampton, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012.

She was born Sept. 20, 1973, in Portsmouth, the daughter of Edward J. and Nan (McCann) McDermott of Hampton.

Raised in Hampton, Martha graduated from Winnacunnet High School with the Class of 1991. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in communications disorders from the University of New Hampshire in 2000 and her Master of Science degree in communications disorders from the University of Redlands in California in 2003.

In June 2003, she married Kris Broderick of Haverhill, Mass., and together in March 2011 they had a child named Clayton Edward Broderick.

Martha was employed as a speech pathologist, specializing in gerontology speech therapy and working in California and Texas before returning to Hampton.

In addition to her parents, she leaves her son, Clayton Edward Broderick; two sisters, Ellen M. McDermott and partner Bridget Sciales of New York City, and Susan Waskelis and husband Todd of Hampton; and two nieces, Hannah and Alison Waskelis.

SERVICES: Visiting hours will be from 3 to 7 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 15, at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Monday, Jan. 16, at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 289 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Friends are respectfully invited. All those attending the funeral Mass are politely requested to go directly to the church. Interment will be private. Family flowers only.
