AFP-NH Comment on House Committee Vote to Increase NH Gas Tax 67%

Americans for Prosperity – New Hampshire (AFP-NH) State Director, Greg Moore, offered the following comment on today's House Ways and Means Committee vote to increase the state gas tax 67%

MANCHESTER – Americans for Prosperity – New Hampshire (AFP-NH) State Director, Greg Moore, offered the following comment on today’s House Ways and Means Committee vote to increase the state gas tax 67%.  The increase is found in HB 617 introduced by Rep. David Campbell (D-Nashua).

“Asking New Hampshire drivers to pay $2.50 more every time they fill up their tank all in the name of growing government is inexcusable,” said Greg Moore, AFP-NH State Director.  “The House has the choice to grow the government or grow the New Hampshire economy.  Unfortunately, it seems with this bill, they have made the wrong choice.  We should not be forcing New Hampshire individuals and businesses to pay more to get around in the middle of this still struggling economy.  It just doesn’t make sense.”

The Committee voted along party lines 11 to 7 in favor of the bill with all Democrats voting to support the bill and all Republicans voting in opposition to it.

“Even pared back from the proposed 83% increase, this still represents the largest tax increase in New Hampshire history,” added Moore.  “We adamantly oppose HB 617 and hope the House will join us in opposition to this further imposition on New Hampshire drivers when the increase is brought to the floor for a vote.”
