County Attorney Issues Consumer Alert
He says some companies are vastly overcharging for copies of public documents.

Rockingham County Attorney Jim Reams and Register of Deeds Cathy Stacey are issuing a warning to consumers that businesses are mailing property owners and offering to provide copies of public documents for $86 that are available for $1 per page at the Registry of Deeds.
"While these businesses are free to charge whatever they want for their services, it is important that the consumer have information available to them to put the decision to get copies of documents in perspective," Reams and Stacey said in a prepared statement. "The Rockingham County Registry of Deeds is a taxpayer financed service that is happy to provide the services at cost to the public."
