Derry Man Helps Rescue Teen from Manchester Sewer
While driving by, Bob Gobin saw the teen's hand reaching up through the sewer grate, called 911.
A local teen is lucky to be alive today after being rescued from a sewer pipe on July 31, 2015, on March Avenue in Manchester.
Bob Gobin of Derry happened to be driving down the street and saw a hand sticking out of a sewer grate manhole cover. He made contact with the man who was stuck, a teen, and called police.
“I’m just glad he’s OK,” he said.

Manchester Fire and Rescue teams, police and AMR EMTs all responded and they were unable to get the teen out.
“The rescue/hazmat team deployed tools and hoists to try to remove the grate,” according to Jeffrey Hastings of Frame of Mind Photography, who was at the scene. “Eventually after opening, the ladder was extended down and a male was removed.”

AMR transported the teen to the hospital in good condition. It’s unknown at post time what he was doing in the sewer but police were questioning him about the incident.
