Dog Park Committee Looks for New Land

Land the group had been considering is now slated for senior housing.

Residents are again searching for land to house a dog park in Londonderry after earlier plans fell through.

The town's Dog Park Study Committee had been eyeing town-owned land on Sanborn Road for a potential site, but later learned the land had already been dedicated to proposed affordable housing for seniors.

The Town Council renewed its commitment to affordable housing on Sanborn Road at a meeting earlier this month. The town's Elder Affairs Committee is applying for grant funding for that project.

"We are back to the drawing board and we've eliminated a couple sites already," Dog Park Committee Chair Dottie Grover told the Town Council at last week's meeting.

Grover said the committee is hoping to secure about an acre of land to house two dog areas – one for large dogs and one for small – and associated parking.

She said the group has ideas for fundraising, but is also looking for donations to help fund the project. Purchasing land not already owned by the town would be especially expensive, she said.

"There must be somebody out there who has money and dogs and feels generous," she said. "We're happy to entertain any ideas."

Council Vice Chair Tom Dolan suggested that the committee consider the superfund site on Auburn Road.
