Employees Air Concerns at Town Hall Meeting

Acting Town Manager Bill Hart says the session was productive.

Thursday's closed-door employee meeting went very well, acting Town Administrator and Police Chief Bill Hart said this afternoon.

Town Hall was closed from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for the meeting, called by Hart to talk to employees about all of the changes at Town Hall in recent months. Hart has been serving as acting town manager since David Caron resigned in July. Caron had been on personal leave since June due to a family medical issue.

Hart said he called the meeting to answer questions about Caron's departure, the recent , and the town's announcement earlier this summer that it would refund more than $1.2 million in impact fees to developers and landowners that was either collected in error or not used within the set timeframe.

"This was, as far as I know, the first time we've had this kind of a town government employee meeting," Hart said, "and my goal was to be open to questions from the employees about not just some of the changes that have occurred this past summer, but also what to look for going forward with the choice of the new town manager looming at some time in the future and with the new budget season fast upon us."

He said he also wanted to give the town employees a chance to get to know him a little better.

"From my perspective, it went well," Hart said.

Despite what he called "a disconcerting summer," he said town employees have continued to do their jobs with the same level of professionalism that they always have. "I've noticed no ill effects to morale," he said.
