Gov. Hassan in Londonderry for Big Pettengill Road Meeting

Gov. Maggie Hassan will be in Londonderry on Wednesday morning to attend a forum on the proposed development of Pettengill Road.

Hassan is scheduled to attend a briefing on the project at 9:30 a.m. at the Executive Health Club, located at 1 Highlander Way, on the Londonderry/Manchester border.

The event is being coordinated by the Southern New Hampshire Planning Commission and is billed as a discussion on "Working Together for the Future Economic Development and Infrastructure in Londonderry."

Londonderry officials are expected to give an overview of the project, followed by a feasibility analysis and a discussion of its impact on Manchester-Boston Regional Airport. New Hampshire Department of Resources and Economic Development Commissioner Jeffrey Rose and local members of the state Legislature are also expected to attend.

The proposal to open up the 1,000-acre parcel for development has long been debated by the town. It would provide economic growth and much needed tax revenue, but some have expressed concerns about how much the project would cost.

Toward that end, the town applied for $8.2 million in federal funding for the Pettengill Road construction last month.
