Cilley Pledges: 'The Fight Goes Forward'

Democrat Jackie Cilley, in concession speech, says NH must revisit its revenue stream.

If more "zombie pledge" TV ads are necessary, so be it, Jackie Cilley joked Tuesday night in conceding the race for the Democratic nomination for governor.

"We need to drive a stake through the heart of that pledge," she said.

Cilley didn't take "the pledge" to veto a broad-based tax, such as a state income or sales tax. While not openly advocating for either, she said New Hampshire must revisit its state revenue structure to resolve high property taxes that are a burden for homeowners and small businesses.

Democratic Party nominee Maggie Hassan did take the pledge, and she underscored during her victory speech that she would veto an income tax, should one ever reach her desk if elected governor.
