Update: Kayla Montgomery Taken Into Custody On Perjury Charges

The stepmom of missing Harmony Montgomery and ex-wife of Adam Montgomery was released on bail on May 6 and is facing felony theft charges.

MANCHESTER, NH — Authorities took Kayla Montgomery into custody Friday in Manchester.

Kayla Montgomery was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond from the Hillsborough County House of Corrections on May 6. She is the stepmother of 7-year-old Harmony Montgomery, who has been the focus of a missing person investigation since October 2021 and has not been seen for more than two years.

It is reported by WMUR that they were told by MPD Chief Allen Aldenberg that she was taken into custody in the lobby of the Manchester Police station.

She was arrested on two counts of perjury for lying to a grand jury and will be arraigned Monday in Hillsborough County Superior Court.

She had been held for about four months on a theft by deception charge on accusations she claimed on state welfare benefit paperwork that Harmony Montgomery was a member of her household even though the girl was not living with her and her father, Adam Montgomery, at the time. Prosecutors said Kayla Montgomery claimed more than $1,500 in benefits to which she was not entitled.

Adam Montgomery, Harmony's father, is also facing charges unrelated to the girl's disappearance.

Bail conditions stated she was required to check in daily in person at the Manchester Police Department and continue with substance abuse treatment. Kayla Montgomery was also ordered to have no contact with Adam Montgomery, either directly or indirectly through a third party.

She was also ordered not to travel outside of New Hampshire and would be required to sign a waiver of extradition before her release.

Several people have reported seeing Kayla Montgomery in Manchester during the past few days.

Patch reached out to Attorney Paul Garrity who has been representing Kayla Montgomery. He has not returned a phone call to comment.

The Attorney General's Office was contacted and has not released any official information at this time.

Montgomery was brought to the Valley Street Jail where she will remain until her arraignment.

Patch will update information as it becomes available.
