Last Year's Champs, Pinkerton Academy, Advances

Last year’s Granite State Challenge champions, Pinkerton Academy, returned this season and topped Kennett High School by a score of 315 to 155. Kennett opened the game strong, but Pinkerton kept a fast buzzer and dominated the final round.

The Pinkerton Astros were represented by captain Rebekah Terry, Joe Ronca, Jake Hudgins, and Alessandra Shipman, and were coached by Peter Crowell and Pam Griswold. The Kennett Eagles were represented by captain Ben Zimmer, Liam Van Rossum, Peter Mayer, and PJ Benson, and were coached by David Freedman and Jocylen Judge.

Pinkerton Academy now advances to the second round of Granite State Challenge. The next first round match airs March 7th at 6 p.m. as Nashua High School South competes against the Academy for Science and Design.

The popular quiz contest began the season with 16 Granite State high school teams battling toward the coveted SuperChallenge title and brainy bragging rights. And, for a third year, there will be a Granite State vs. Bay State Governor’s Cup match between the winners of the Granite State Super Challenge and the WGBH Boston High School Quiz Show.

New Hampshire’s top high school academic teams demonstrate teamwork, quick thinking and smarts as they play Granite State Challenge. The game emphasizes quick recall of math, science, social studies, language arts and fine arts facts - along with questions about current events, entertainment, sports, and New England. Host Jim Jeannotte poses the Challenge questions; co-host Lori Warriner gets the behind-the-scenes story from each team.
