Londonderry Looking to Hire Police Officers, Fire Dispatcher

The hirings are not for new positions, but existing openings.

The town of Londonderry is looking to hire two new police officers and a new fire dispatcher.

Acting Town Manager and Police Chief William Hart told the Town Council on June 3 that the Police Department will be having its annual hiring process on June 15.

"We have the usual – over about 100 applicants," Hart said. "We expect that they'll be hiring for at least two and possibly three positions currently. They're all open positions, not new positions."

There is also a new school security officer position coming on board on July 1 consistent with the Town Meeting vote.

The Fire Department is also hiring a part-time dispatcher, Hart said.

"This is a position that's been open since 2011 and largely filled with overtime," he said.

Hart said one of Acting Fire Chief Darren O'Brien's primary goals when he took over was to look at that position and see what action the town should take. He determined that the town could actually save close to $20,000 annually in overtime costs by hiring someone to fill the position.
