Londonderry resident Patrick Kusior broke 4 world records!

The meet was hosted by KDR Fitness and sanctioned by the Revolution Powerlifting Syndicate (RPS).

At a recent powerlifting meet in Lebanon, NH, Londonderry resident Patrick Kusior broke 4 world records. Competing in the 50-54 age category and the 198 pound weight class, Kusior squatted 520, benched 342.5 and deadlifted 505 pounds for a total of 1,367.5 pounds. The meet was hosted by KDR Fitness and sanctioned by the Revolution Powerlifting Syndicate (RPS). "Powerlifting is a very safe and affordable sport that attracts teens, seniors, female and male competitors" says Kusior; "the youngest lifter was 16 and the oldest was 87 years young!" Kusior started powerlifting in college and competed into his late 20s.

Family, work, travel and other obligations made it difficult to competitively weight train, so Kusior turned to running and ran numerous 5K races throughout the decades. Although fit, he missed the heavy weight training and decided to get back into powerlifting at 51. He bought a squat rack, set it up in his basement and began the process of transforming his body from a 170 pound runner to a 198 pound powerlifter. "Those first months of weight training were very difficult, I forgot how heavy 300 pounds feels”, Kusior says with a smile.

To add another dimension to his fitness program, Kusior began martial arts training in his late 40's at Master An's in Bedford, NH where he is a second degree black belt in Hap Ki Do. To diversify his skills, he recently began taking Brazilian Ju Jitsu classes at Woo Kickboxing Academy in Londonderry, NH. "Martial arts is great for the body and mind, it has greatly improved my flexibility, confidence and my situational awareness" says Kusior. He is very grateful for his martial arts instructors and classmates, and has the deepest respect for the An and Woo families.
